A Bahrain court yesterday sentenced an expat to five years in prison on charges of human trafficking. Trafficking in Persons Chief Prosecutor Marwa Al Nashwan said that the First High Criminal Court convicted the man for luring a housemaid to escape from her employer’s house and forcing her into the sex trade.
The defendant kept the victim detailed in his apartment, forcing her to have sex with customers, while he kept the money. He was also fined BD2,000 as well as ordered to pay repatriation expenses of the victim.
He will be deported after completion of his term. “The victim was deprived of her freedom and forced into prostitution,” said Mr Al Nashwan.
