Last month was sunniest October in Bahrain since 1968

Last month was the sunniest October since the sunshine records began in 1968, with 331.3 hours of sunshine for the month.

The old record was 329.4 hours, recorded in October 2014, the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary.

According to the report, October was slightly warmer than normal with below average relative humidities and wind speed.

The mean temperature of the month was 30.1°C, 0.9°C above the long-term normal for October. The highest mean monthly temperature for October was 32.1°C recorded in 2019.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 33.3°C, which is 0.2°C above the long-term normal.

During the month, Bahrain had eight days with maximum temperature exceeding 35°C. The highest temperature recorded was 37.8°C on October 1 and 7 at Bahrain International Airport (BIA).

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 26.8°C, which is 1.3°C above the long-term normal. The lowest temperature recorded was 23.5°C on October 27 at BIA.

The mean relative humidity was 56 per cent whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 70 per cent and the mean minimum relative humidity was 41 per cent. The maximum relative humidity was 82 per cent recorded on October 25 and the minimum relative humidity was 16 per cent recorded on October 11.

No precipitation was reported in October. The long-term average total precipitation for October is 0.5 mm. The highest monthly total precipitation recorded during October at BIA was 19.9 mm, which occurred in 2018.

The mean wind speed for October was 6 knots. The prevailing wind was 68 per cent from the Northwest-North direction. Gust winds reached 24 knots on October 8-9 at BIA and on October 8 at King Fahad Causeway. Gust winds reached 25 knots on the same day at Durrat Al Bahrain.

Haze reported on October 27-28 and visibility dropped to 5000 meters at BIA.
