The Emperor Within emerged triumphant yesterday to lift the Montreal Motors Cup in the main event of the 2020/2021 season’s second meeting at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Riffa.

The five-year-old victor, owned by M and E Racing and trained by Alan Smith, put in a fine run against nine others to claim the lion’s share of the BD3,000 prize.

Ridden by Edinson Rodriguez, The Emperor Within completed the nine-fur- long event in a total time of one minute 49.340 seconds, crossing the finish line with a six-lengths lead over runner-up Noble Prospector, representing Al Afoo Racing Stable, Lee Newman and Mohammed Saeed. Estikmaal came third for Al Asayel Racing, Ebrahim Nader and Khalid Al Khatri.

In the sixth race of yesterday’s seven-race card, Kinks took first place to clinch the Late Abdulhadi Al Afoo Cup, which was held over seven furlongs with a BD3,000 prize.

The Al Mohamediya Racing four-year- old, trained by Hesham Al Haddad and jockeyed by Callum Rodriguez, won by a head against second-placer Sir Viktor of Al Hermi Syndicate, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Seamus Cronin. Graphite Storm completed the top three for Al Hassanain Syndicate, Marcialis Jaures and Mohammed Al Sammak.

Race five was for the meeting’s other Montreal Motors Cup, and it was won by Ramani, owned by Al Afoo Racing Stable, trained by Mohammed Saeed and ridden by Lee Newman.

The six-year-old completed the seven-furlong race distance in 1:26.415 to take the biggest portion of the BD3,000 prize. Finishing behind with a four-and- a-half lengths gap was The Dark Knight for Victorious, Alan Smith and Edinson Rodriguez.

Caped Crusader came third, also for owners Victorious and trainer Alan Smith, being ridden by Carlos Bueno.

The other trophy up for grabs yesterday was the Al Sakhir Cup in the six-furlong first race, offering a BD1,500 prize. Tuwaisaan 1762 was the winner in 1:23.501 for Victorious, Yousif Taher and Husain Makki, while Kuheilan Aafas 1675 came second a length behind com- peting for Al Wasmiya, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Seamus Cronin. Al Saqlawy 1757 completed the top three for Safra, Alan Smith and Edinson Rodriguez.

Elsewhere yesterday, Good News won the fourth race held over 10 furlongs for a BD2,000 prize for owner M and E Racing, trainer Alan Smith and jockey Rhona Pindar. Don Armado claimed race three for Al Afoo Racing Stable, Mohammed Saeed and Lee Newman over a five-fur- long straight and a BD2,000 prize; while Navy Blue representing Victorious, Alan Smith and Hasan Al Mawali won race two, held over a six-furlong straight and offering BD2,000 in prize money.
