Muharraq beat Busaiteen to begin volleyball title-defence

Champions Muharraq kicked off their title-defense in the Isa bin Rashid Vol- leyball League on a positive note last night, defeating Busaiteen in a four-set encounter.

Muharraq narrowly gave up the first set by just two points, but after raising their level, strung together wins in the next three sets to secure the final result 3-1 (29-31, 25-17, 25-18, 25-19).

This year’s first division league, organsied and run by the Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA), is being held in honour of the late Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa, the former Bahrain Olympic Committee president. Games are being played at the BVA arena at Isa Sports City in Riffa.

In another match last night, Al Ahli defeated a spirited Bani Jamrah 3-1 (25-13, 20-25, 26- 24, 25-18) to make a winning start to the new campaign.

Eight teams are competing in this year’s first division, including Muharraq, Busaiteen, Al Ahli, Bani Jamrah, Dar Kulaib, A’Ali, Al Najma and Al Nasser.

League action continues tonight with two games on the cards. Dar Kulaib face A’ali at 6pm followed by Najma and Nasser facing off at 7.30pm.
