Bahrain’s future leaders and decision-makers will take centre stage when the Youth Summit 2020 gets underway today.

His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa will be the keynote speaker at the opening session.

The two-day event, which is organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs in the presence of ministers and Bahraini youngsters, will be held via videoconference.

The summit is returning after two years to underscore continuous co-ordination between all parties to develop the youth sector in the kingdom, further engage youngsters in tackling challenges and provide a platform for them to express their opinions about current issues.

It is in line with the vision of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, aiming at involving young people in decision-making and creating an ideal environment for them to lead the future of modern Bahrain.

HM the King’s initiatives are supported by His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

Nine ministers will hold discussions with the youth about the challenges facing their sectors, and listen to the latter’s viewpoints on innovative solutions and ideas to overcome them.

The summit’s first session will begin with the participation of Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa will take part in the first session, while Youth and Sport Affairs Minister Ayman bin Tawfeeq Al Moayyed will speak in the second session.

Speaking ahead of the summit’s launch, Shaikh Nasser has said that the Kingdom has provided a unique international model in supporting the youth, preparing future leaders and creating ideal conditions for them to take part in the country’s decision-making.

It is in line with the aspirations of His Majesty King Hamad to make Bahraini youth among the top priorities of the government owing to their contributions to the development process.

Shaikh Nasser pointed out the success of Youth Summit 2018, which supported youth-oriented initiatives and programmes and mapped out basic and strategic frameworks for the youth sector.

With the growing number of youngsters in Bahrain, Shaikh Nasser stressed, it has become a necessity for the kingdom to implement policies to further encourage them to get involved in decision-making for the development and prosperity of the nation.

He expressed confidence in the Bahraini youth to come up at the summit with pioneering projects and ideas amid the coronavirus pandemic.
