Prince Khalifa left a “powerful legacy”

Condolences and words of support continue to pour in from all over the world days after HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa bid farewell to his beloved Kingdom and people.

Funeral of the late His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa was held at the Al Haniniya cemetery on Friday, in Riffa, in the presence of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and Prime Minister.

Before that His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa performed the funeral prayer for late His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa at the Shaikh Isa bin Salman Mosque in Riffa.

Bahrain is now in official weeklong mourning, with His Majesty King and HRH the Crown prince continues to receive condolences from world leaders.

Proud legacy

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa during a condolence meeting yesterday at Sakhir Air Base said, “HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa’s outstanding leadership has gifted Bahrain a proud legacy locally, regionally and internationally”.

Recalling the noble virtues of the late HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and his dedication in serving his King and the Kingdom, HRH Prince Salman said the Kingdom has “lost a great and wise leader who devoted his life to further the Kingdom’s progress and the aspirations of its citizens.”

The Prime Minister was offering his deepest condolences to the Deputy Prime Minister, HH Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Advisor to the Prime Minister, HH Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and the grandchildren of the late HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa at the Sakhir Air Base.

The crown Prince told the meeting that the late HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman’s many achievements remain a foundation for the Kingdom’s continued development.

HH Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa and HH Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa expressed their gratitude to HRH the Crown Prince for his condolences and sympathy at this time.

HRH the Crown Prince also received condolences from senior members of the Royal family. Separately, Prince Salman received the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr Nayef Falah M. Al-Hajraf, President of the Presidency Council of the State of Libya, Faiez Al Serraj, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, HH Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and Sultan of Oman, HH Sayyid Fatik bin Fahr Al Said. They offered condolences on the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, at Sakhir Air Base.

“Powerful legacy”

Acting US Secretary of Defence, Chris Miller, in a statement, said that the late His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa had left a “powerful legacy” that deserves every appreciation and will always be remembered.

Miller recalled the HRH Prince Khalifa’s contributions to forging the Bahrain-US defense cooperation. He said: “Bahrain’s hosting of the US Fifth Fleet for nearly a quarter-century, for which we are continually grateful, is an example of the deep ties our nations developed during HRH Prince Khalifa’s tenure.”

“I also look forward to continuing the close relationship with HRH Crown Prince Sal- man bin Hamad Al Khalifa in his new role as Prime Minister,” he added.

Bahrain’s permanent delegation to the United Nations received several delegates and UN officials who offered condolences on the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa. Bahrain’s embassy to Russia also received several ambassadors accredited in Moscow who offered condolences on the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. The diplomats praised the outstanding role of HRH Prince Khalifa in serving Bahrain and the nation for five decades.

“Will remain eternal in the memory”

The Permanent Mission of Bahrain to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva received several Permanent Representatives to the United Nations Office, to offer condolences on the sad demise of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
The condolers recalled the legacy of HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, his record of international accomplishments, and brilliant imprints that will remain eternal in the memory and conscience of Bahrain and the Arab and Islamic nation. They also paid homage to him for his achievements in terms of multilateral international action, whether in the United Nations, or major international organisations.

The Kingdom’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Yusuf Abdulkarim Bucheeri, ex- pressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the condolers for their condolences, sympathy and noble feelings.

Condolences were also made by President of the Republic of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelle, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babiš, Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa, Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Italian Republic, Prince Faisal bin Sattam bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the Italian Republic, Sheikh Azzam Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, Lebanese Ambassador to Bahrain Dr Milad Nemour, Saudi Ambassador to Italy HRH Prince Faisal bin Satam bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Personal Advisor to the Russian President for the Middle East, North Africa and Arab and Islamic Affairs Vitaly Naumkin and several others yesterday.
