An Indian man who was arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs to Bahrain reportedly claims he was framed by relatives of a man here.

The accused, named only as Sudheesh, was caught by officials at the Cochin International Airport in the South Indian state of Kerala possessing 10 grams of Cannabis concealed in a dense sweet confection called Halva.

The 21-year-old is a native from the state’s Kasargod district, according to a regional daily.

Central Industrial Security Force officers, who grew suspicious of Sudheesh’s sweet box, found the banned item hidden inside the confection.

During interrogation, Sudheesh claimed he had no clue of the crime he had committed and that he was given the sweet box by the relatives of a friend in Bahrain.

“It was for my friend in Bahrain, I am innocent,” Sudheesh told officers.

His case has been transferred to the local police for further action.
