Labourer falls to death in Seef

An Asian labourer was killed on the spot after falling from the 24th floor of a building in the Capital Governorate on Wednesday morning.

According to the police report, the man apparently slipped while cleaning the exterior glass of a 25-storey commercial building in Seef District.

Vocational Safety Department Head at Labour and Social Development Ministry Hussain Al Shami said that Exhibition Road Police Station informed them about the incident.

He confirmed that the department’s investigative unit immediately visited the accident site to gather information and inspect the evidences.

Al Shami explained that the man fell from a height of 60 metres while standing on a fragile surface.

“Investigations indicated that the victim was standing on an aluminum balcony to clean the glass of the building from the outside. He fell to his last fate when the balcony suddenly broke,” he stated.

A meeting with the employer has been arranged, as the inspection visit showed that the worksite lacks certain safety measures, which could have lead to the man’s death.

“Technical causes of the accidents are being finalised and will be referred to the Public Prosecution. Legal action will be taken against the individuals responsible for the detected violations and could have resulted in the man’s death,” Al Shami added.
