Attracting 160,000 gourmets, that too in just a month amid the coronavirus pandemic is no mean feat. The newly opened Food Trucks area has become the 'Pied Piper of Bahrain' with the magical flavours oozing out of the umpteen delicacies dragging in good food lovers in truck loads.

The area dubbed "District” is a smash hit among connoisseurs of good food in Bahrain. There are about 50 mobile food outlets at the area offering a variety of dishes ranging from local to international cuisines catering to a wide range of customers. Planet Caravan, 974 Special Restaurant, Sweetna Sweet, December 31 Cafe and Costa Coffee are few among them.

Opened on October 22 by the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed bin Rashid Alzayani, the trucks are stationed near the Bahrain National Stadium, East Riffa.

The achievement, amid the coronavirus (COVID-19), also brings into perspective the stringent precautionary measures followed to make the area healthy, clean and safe for visitors. Launched to support promising Bahraini projects and to empower food truck owners, the District has played a vital role in contributing towards creating an ideal environment for the emerging food-truck industry in the Kingdom.

According to  Dr Nasser Ali Yousif, the Chief Executive Officer of the  Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), the ‘District’ now caters to a wide range of customers including local and international. The authority is providing necessary services for the smooth functioning of the business and is taking care of its security, electricity as well as cleaning for a nominal fee.

Dr Ali assured that the area is functioning in full conformity with the protocols issued by the National Campaign to combat the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Social distancing is followed strictly in places designated for dining with the entire process monitored digitally using barcodes affixed to the dining tables to avoid queues.
