The Kingdom of Bahrain is keen to develop the future sciences and technology including artificial intelligence and space science as part of the royal leadership’s directives.

No less than His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa has underlined the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to set up the space sector in the Kingdom while encouraging the youth to get interested in future sciences and technology especially space exploration.

Shaikh Nasser underlined HM the King’s keenness on developing national cadres and developing the space sector, pointing out in this regard the establishment of the National Space Science Authority (NSSA). The NSSA was established by Royal Decree 11/2014, with a vision “to promote Bahrain to a position of international prominence in the field of space science for the purpose of achieving comprehensive and sustainable development”.

NSSA’s mission is “to device comprehensive programmes to embrace and develop activities related to space science, researches and related studies.” Recently, two NSSA employees have participated in a training programme, “Foundations of Artificial Intelligence”, organised by the University of Saint Petersburg in Russia.

The participation of Muneera Al Malki, an engineer, and Shayma Al Meer, a technician, is in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to deepen interest in future sciences, including space science, technology and artificial intelligence. Their involvement was also part of the NSSA plans to empower young Bahrainis to excel in these fields.

The training covered several important topics that form the foundations of artificial intelligence, including machine learning, inductive and deductive learning, classification of machine learning algorithms, binary classification, logistic regression, deep learning and data processing techniques.

The two employees successfully completed the training, achieved high scores and graduated with honours within a group of trainees specialised in the field from around the world. Muneera and Shaima said the achievement is the outcome of great efforts, continuous motivation and a real determination among those in charge of the NSSA to boost the capabilities of Bahrainis and fulfil the ambitious national vision to establish a sustainable space sector in Bahrain.

They expressed gratitude to the NSSA executives for their continuous support and encouragement and said they were indebted to Bahrain for giving them the opportunity to build their capacities, improve their capabilities and enhance their skills despite the exceptional circumstances that have affected the world. NSSA Chief Executive Officer Dr Mohammed Ebrahim Al Aseeri commended the two employees for their great dedication and outstanding achievement in a prestigious institution. He wished them more accomplishments and further knowledge that would enable them to contribute to achieving the vision, mission and goals of the NSSA.
