Varsity officials summoned

Members of a private university’s administration were summoned by educational authorities in the country yesterday, to stand on the recent complaints received by the staff, claiming that they didn’t receive their salaries for more than three months.

Education Ministry said in a press statement yesterday that “upon the instructions of Education Minister and Higher Education Council (HEC) Chairman Dr. Majid Al Nuami, HEC Secretary General Dr. Reyadh Hamza summoned Gulf University officials to discuss the recent complaints filed by the university’s administrative and academic staff.”

According to the ministry, the staff complained about not being paid for more than three months. The statement mentioned that some of the staff who filed the complaint are either sacked, resigned or are still working at the university.

“The university provided the council with documents stating that the staff was paid their wages up to September, 2015. Higher Education General Secretariat granted the university a period of seven days to ensure paying all the staff and to provide documents proving that,” the ministry stated.

The General Secretariat asserted that it’s concerned about the rights of higher education personnel in the Kingdom, adding that all legal means would be taken against violating academic institutions.
