The Kingdom of Bahrain today marks the UN Arabic Language Day, which falls annually on December 18.
Education Minister Dr Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi said that Bahrain’s keenness on promoting the Arabic language stems from its Arabic and Islamic identity stipulated in the constitution, the National Action Charter and the law on education.
He cited Article III of this law, which reads: “Promote the teaching of the Arabic language and raise its level to enable it to be mastered and used in various fields of knowledge”.
He said the Arabic language enjoys a high standing in the official teaching curricula and is being constantly strengthened and developed, in addition to other school activities.
The UN Arabic Language Day was established by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 2010 with the aim of raising awareness of its standing and development throughout history.
