Bahrain has clinched the 20th edition of the HH Shaikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award.

The Education Ministry’s educational portal, the winner of the award, was selected among the best technological projects in the field of education in 2020, and as an e-platform and smart application.

On this occasion, Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and Information at the Ministry of Education, Nawal Al-Khater, said that the win confirms the importance of the educational portal as a major development project that contributed to achieving its goals in enhancing digital education and distance learning.

With more than 25 million visits so far, the portal was launched in 2015 marking the implementation of the Digital Empowerment in Education Programme, she said.

She affirmed that the portal has contributed to the achievement of the Education Ministry’s strategic goal of improving the quality of the teaching and learning process, through providing services that support digital empowerment in education, as well as a database for students, and all those involved in the educational process.

The portal has also contributed to establishing a “digital community for education”, through paving the way for teachers and students to discuss educational issues and exchange views, she said, adding that the educational portal includes virtual classes, and is designed for teaching and training remotely.

The HH Shaikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award is an annual event introduced in 2001 with the aim of making the Arab world an integrated, advanced informatics community.

Designed to build individual capabilities in the advancement in IT, it also promotes the role of social institutions to keep up with the new state-of-the-art trends in the industry.
