British Council organises photography workshop

The British Council and Al Riwaq Art Space in association with Art Jameel of Abdul Latif Jameel is organising a three-day photography workshop on October 18, 19 and 24 at Al Riwaq Art Space in Adliya. In the workshop, a lecture will be given by French photographer Stephanie Ravel, who lived in Tunisia, India and China before establishing herself in Bahrain.  This year’s theme for the annual Art Jameel Photography Competition is “Transitions.”

Participants will be asked to interpret the theme and share stories with each other. Besides the technical photography skills, they will also learn how to organise series of photographs and write a statement and biography to participate in photography competitions, such as the Art Jameel Photography Award.

The Art Jameel Photography Award (AJPA), one of the Art Jameel initiatives, is an extension of the Bab Rizq Jameel Photography Award, which was launched in 2010.

The Award, for the first time, extends to accept submissions from all GCC countries.

Stephanie Ravel’s practice is concerned with the construction of identity, with a focus on religious rituals. Her work has been exhibited several times in Bahrain at Bin Matar House and Al Riwaq Gallery.

Her last work will be displayed at ArtBahrain this month. She has been a finalist of Lugano Photo Days and Sienna International Photography Awards.

This workshop is free of charge and registration is open. Participants can register by contacting the organising committee on info@alriwaqartspace.com or visiting the website http://www.britishcouncil.bh/en/events/transitions-photography-competition
