Works Minister inspect reclamation works at North Bahrain, Al-Basteen Bridge

Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Eng. Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf has paid an inspection visit to the second package of reclamation works within the construction project of North Bahrain Street (phase two) and Al-Basteen Bridge.

The Minister was briefed on the latest work developments in one of the strategic road projects of the Ministry.

The visit was attended by Works Affairs Undersecretary Eng. Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Khayyat, Assistant Undersecretary for Roads Eng. Hoda Abdullah Fakhro, Director of Roads Projects and Maintenance Department, Eng. Sayed Badr Alawi, Director of the Department of Road Planning and Design, Eng. Maha Khalifa Hamadeh, and a number of engineers in charge of the project, as well as consultants and contractors.

Minister Khalaf said that the project will enhance the economic movement in the Kingdom, as the fourth bridge will link the economic, tourism and development facilities on Muharraq Island to the mother island of Manama from the north, and will provide access ports for the new Busaiteen and the Sayah area.

During the visit, a detailed presentation was made on the implementation phases of the project and what has been completed so far.

The Ministry has completed the implementation of the second package of reclamation works. This includes the rest of the burial works necessary for the entire campus from its beginning at Diyar Al Muharraq and its extension towards Sayah and Busaiteen to Bahrain Bay to meet with Street North Manama Bridge, 8km long.

The Minister praised those in charge of the project on the completion of one million work hours, without any injuries, which indicates the extent of commitment to occupational health and safety requirements at the worksite, ensuring all preventive measures and safety standards in this huge project.

The ministry had completed the implementation of the dredging works for the first package of the northern Manama bridge project “Busaiteen” in August last year, and the construction of roads. The fourth bridge will begin immediately after the completion of the reclamation works.
