Fish farming in Bahrain is on verge of ‘quantum leap

The fish farming sector is on the verge of a quantum leap, according to the Undersecretary for Agriculture and Marine Resources at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Dr Nabil Muhammed Abu Al Fateh.

Under the direction of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Eng. Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf, the Ministry is determined to enter into partnerships that will contribute to the advancement of work at the National Mariculture Center, in order to achieve the goals of doubling the volume of production and maximising the benefit of the centre.

During his inspection visit to the National Mariculture Center in Ras Hayyan, accompanied by the Acting Director of the Fisheries Department, Ammar Yasser, and marine resource specialist Bassam Al Shuwaikh, Dr Al Fateh was briefed on the efforts made by the national cadres to improve the production volume of local fish.

He stressed that the Ministry continues to plan and allocate land and marine sites for fish farming projects, in implementation of the supreme directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to achieve the food security strategy for the Kingdom of Bahrain.
