Eight government schools and Bahrain Training Institute are on board a project to power them with solar energy.
The project aims at producing 30 per cent savings in electricity costs.
Solar project is the brainchild of Bahrain’s Ministry of Education, the Sustainable Energy Authority, the Economic Development Board, the Japanese company (JHS) and the Bahraini company (Absher).
It is also one of the largest public-private sector partnerships in the Kingdom’s renewable energy sector.
Officials announced the deal during a virtual ceremony.
Present at the signing were Dr Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, the Minister of Education, Dr Abdul Hussein bin Ali Mirza, the Chairman of the Sustainable Energy Authority; and Dr Basem Abdullah, the representative of the (IREC) alliance.
IREC alliance is a consortium of Japanese and Bahraini companies.
In its first phase, the deal, effective from 1st January 2021, calls for equipping eight government schools and the Bahrain Training Institute with solar power. The deal also guarantees long-term financial assurance for the implementation of the project.
“The project promotes renewable energy and contributes towards protecting the environment, and achieve sustainable development goals,” said Dr Al Nuaimi.
