Bahrain International Exhibition and Conference Centre project work in full swing

Construction works are underway on the new Bahrain International Exhibition and Conference Centre project in Sakhir. Project completion rate now stands at 14%. All the concrete plinths casting works have been completed and installation of steel structures has also begun.

Concrete works also continue at the upper floors. Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Assistant Undersecretary for Construction and Maintenance Projects Eng. Shaikh Mishaal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa said that nearly 9,000 cubic metres of concrete were poured in for the last part of the foundations of the conference centre.

About 29,500 cubic metres of concrete were poured on the concrete base of the conference centre, a rate of one concrete truck every minute for a continuous 24-hour period.

During the past six months, an estimated volume of 85,000 cubic metres of concrete, an average of 3,500 cubic metres per week, were poured on the foundations of the whole project, including the conference centre, exhibition halls, and service buildings. The project is being built west of the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) on a land of 278,900 square metres, while the built area is 141,120 square metres.

Upon full completion, the project will be a major boost in attracting international events that will support tourism, investments and the economy, as well as enhance Bahrain’s status locally, regionally, continentally and globally.

It will place the Kingdom at the forefront of distinguished countries in this field because of its high specifications that are commensurate with global requirements, which will have a significant positive impact in promoting Bahrain in line with its Vision 2030 under the wise visions of His Majesty the King.

The project is characterised by a distinguished architectural design according to the latest design standards that meet all the requirements of visitors and exhibitors. It will boost the reputation of the Kingdom of Bahrain as a leading destination in the field of exhibitions and conferences.

The centre is built with halls for exhibitions, conferences meetings and other events and equipped with the latest technology. It includes 10 exhibition halls of different heights with a total area of 95,000 square metres that includes all the necessary services from lighting, air conditioning and technical services.

It also has spaces special storage for each hall, separate exits and entrances, making it the most suitable place for hosting international exhibitions and for concluding commercial deals. “The heart of the project consists of a central lobby that connects all other components and is considered a support site for the activities held in the centre, as it includes a number of restaurants, shops and retail stores associated with all exhibition halls,” the Assistant Undersecretary said.

The conference centre consists of the main conference hall that can accommodate nearly 4,000 people. It has an area of 4,500 square metres that can be divided into three separate halls equipped with the latest means of display and technical services to host international conferences. It can also be a venue for artistic events, parties and other activities. The conference centre also includes a number of halls for medium and small conferences and meetings.

The project also includes two VIP councils with their accessories capable of receiving visitors at the highest levels of luxury, in addition to the external wall, guard and control rooms, internal roads, services and parking for 1,600 cars, of which about 130 parking spaces are reserved for VIPs.
