The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA) today opened the Fatima Al Houty Mosque in Muharraq, marking the kingdom’s celebrations of the National Day, and the anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne.

Held under the patronage of the SCIA President, Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Khalifa, the event was attended by the Sunni Endowments Council, Dr Shaikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al-Hajeri, SCIA Secretary-General, Khalid bin Abdulla Al-Shomaly, in addition to a number of officials of the Sunni Endowments Council and Sunni Endowments Directorate.

Al-Shomaly expressed delight at the implementation of the project and congratulated the citizens of the region on the opening of the religious monument.

He praised the keenness of the kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to serve and support the houses of worship, out of its belief in the pivotal role of mosques in spreading faith, knowledge, goodness and virtue, being places to consolidate values, morals, culture and identity.

The Fatima Al Houty Mosque was rebuilt by the SCIA, at a total cost of BD 772,000, using cost-saving modern materials. The 1795-metre mosque accommodates about 1500 worshippers and includes two stories and a half.

The ground floor includes the main prayer hall, a prayer area for women and two ablutions rooms, while the first floor features a prayer room, a Holy Quran memorization centre and an ablutions room. The second floor was allocated for the residence of the imam and the muezzin.
