Bahrain literary group to pay tribute to poet Shamsur Rahman Faruqi

Literary group Majlise Fakhre Bahrain is organising an online Commemorative Meeting and Poetry Session to pay tribute to Shamsur Rahman Faruqi, an Indian Urdu poet, author, critic and theorist.

Eminent Hindi poet, critic and editor Ashok Vajpeyi (Hindi poet, critic and former VC, Mahatma Gandhi Int’l Hindi University) will preside over the event. Prominent Urdu critic, former VC, Aligarh Muslim University Professor Qazi Afzal Husain will be the keynote speaker.

Mahmood Faruqi (film and theatre personality), Dr Mehr Afshan Faruqi (associate professor, University of Virginia, US) and Dr Baran Faruqi (professor, Jamia Millia Islamia) will be esteemed speakers.

Introductory remarks will be delivered by Asif Azmi (author, filmmaker and chairman, The Pen Foundation). At the end of the first session, Shakeel Ahmed Sabrahdi (founder and patron, Majlis e Fakhr e Bahrain) will deliver the concluding remarks. Aziz Nabeel (poet, editor and chief advisor, Majlis e Fakhr e Bahrain) will compère this part of the event.

Distinguished Urdu poet Azhar Enayti will preside the International Mushaira (poetry symposium). Renowned poets Pratap Somvanshi, Mansoor Usmani, Saud Usmani, Ateeq Anzar, Aziz Nabeel, Khalid Sabrahdi and Riaz Shahid will come together to bring alive Urdu’s timeless splendour and rich heritage on the theme of the new global identity of Urdu and the message of peace and amity it has always stood for. Mushaira will be compèred by Khurram Abbasi.
