Students and teachers of secondary girls schools in the Kingdom had a day out with robots as part of their robotics workshop. The virtual workshop organised by the Robotics Committee at Al-Isteqlal Secondary Girls School, robo-tuned the imaginations of 29 students and teachers from seven secondary schools.
Small robots kept them engaged for hours, as the students checked on programming, sensors and wiring of the robots. Students eagerly waited for their turn to control the movements and sensors of the robots as they also tried their hands at programming the tiny robots to use it as part of their curricula, especially in mathematics and science. Jamila Omar, the Coordinator of the Robotics Committee, said the workshop was challenging and useful at the same time.
“It included interactive exercises like operating the robot using the camera, displaying it directly to the students, watching programming on the TIMES platform.”
Fatima Shaker, one of the students at Al-Istiqlal School, said: “I learned the basics of robotics, programming, and installation.” “I also learned how to control the robot, and I hope that more students will try their hands at this.”
Student Zainab Hussein added: “It was an enjoyable experience and we now know how to programme and use it for learning. Education becomes fun when a robot is employed.”
Student Iman Rabie also praised the workshop, saying: “The teachers gave us tasks and evaluated our work. We learned to move the robots using the camera. I am looking forward to taking it to the next level after returning to school.”
