Bahrain authorities yesterday refuted claims made by Qatari Channel Al Jazeera, news sites and social media regarding the status of inmate Jassem Muhammad Abbas as “incorrect”.

Jassim Muhammad Abbas, a 40-year-old, is serving life imprisonment in several terrorism cases, said the General Directorate of Reformation and Rehabilitation.

The authority confirmed that Abbas is not in solitary confinement, but coronavirus related precautionary measures necessitated stopping visits.

Inmates are allowed to talk with their family via video calls three times per week.

However, the Abbas has refused to contact his family members or relatives after 7 July 2020.

The General Administration for Reform and Rehabilitation also confirmed the condition of Abbas as healthy.

He is allowed all rights as the rest of the inmates.

The Administration also invited the National Institution for Human Rights to visit the inmate and assess his condition, for the sake of transparency.

The authority also assured that it is carrying out its humanitarian and legal duties with full transparency and integrity.

The authority also called on all to obtain information from the official sources and reject malicious rumours.
