A local study has recommended the importance of preparing an integrated national marine survey plan, which protects the marine environment in a way that ensures the sustainability of its resources for future generations.
The study, which was conducted within the Master of Environment and Sustainable Development programme at the College of Science of the University of Bahrain, showed the remarkable development in protecting the marine environment on several levels, including marine spatial planning, monitoring sources of pollution, monitoring the quality of the marine environment, and legal tools for environmental protection.
Called “Protection of the Quality of the Marine Environment in the Kingdom of Bahrain,” the study aimed to study the history of marine environment protection in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and examine the stages of development of marine environment management by environmental institutions that succeeded in managing them, beginning with the Environment Protection Committee established in 1980 and ending with the Council Top of the environment.
It was recently published in the Journal of Oceans and Coastal Management of ELSEVIER Publishing House, and was conducted by the two researchers: Head of the Bio-Analysis Unit at the Supreme Council for the Environment, Khalil Hassan Abdullah, and Associate Professor of Environmental Sciences, Department of Life Sciences at the University of Bahrain, Dr Hammoud Abdullah Nasser.
