Revenue loss from the Bahrain International Exhibition Center amounts to BD839,000 amid the coronavirus pandemic, said the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Zayed Al Zayani.
The minister attributed the losses to cancellation or postponement of exhibitions and events planned from March 2020 to March 2021.
“This was mainly due to the handing over of the centre to a medical team battling the COVID-19 pandemic,” the minister said.
Since the middle of last year, the national medical team addressing the coronavirus pandemic had turned the facility into an integrated centre. In his response to a parliament question, the minister explained that the exhibition centre was reserved for 14 events.
“This included the Bahrain International Garden Show (135,000 dinars), the Middle East Geosciences Exhibition and Conference (69,000 dinars), the Eighteenth Middle East Corrosion Exhibition and Conference (69,000 dinars), the Gulf Real Estate Exhibition (18,000 dinars), the Gulf Construction Exhibition (15,000 dinars) and other activities.”
