Bahraini women’s significant progress

Bahrain’s efforts to increase the involvement of women in every segment of the society are working wonders.

Although there are still challenges that must be addressed to reach gender equality, Bahraini women have already made significant progress towards gender balance in the political, diplomatic, business, educational, media, engineering, legal and medical fields and sectors, among others.

Today, the Kingdom of Bahrain celebrates the Arab Women’s Day, which is observed across Arab countries every February 1.

It is an event celebrated to commemorate the achievements and creative contribution made by Arab women to the development and progress of their respective country.

It also highlights the importance and important role played by women in public life.

In a statement marking the occasion, Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh sent a cable of congratulations to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW).

Shura chairman praised the high position that Bahraini women have assumed and the progress they achieve as a result of their vital role in various fields.

He said that this is an opportunity to recall the achievements of Bahraini women in light of the comprehensive development march of His Majesty King and the efforts of HRH Princess Sabeeka, to promote women and ensure their progress.

Council of Representatives Speaker Fawzia Abdulla Yusuf Zainal also congratulated HRH Princess Sabeeka on the occasion.

The Speaker commended Bahraini women’s strides across all fields in the Arab and international levels.

She commended the efforts of the Cabinet, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to support women, through the integration of the national strategy and women’s needs in the Government’s Action Plan.

She highlighted the positive impact of the SCW plans, projects and contributions in supporting Bahraini women which enabled them to hold advanced positions.

The Woman and Child Affairs Committee at the Shura Council, chaired by Dr Ebtissam Mohammed Saleh Al Dalal, also lauded the great support and care accorded by HM the King and HRH Princess Sabeeka to Bahraini women.

The committee praised the distinguished status reached by Bahraini women during HM the King’s Reform Era, lauding the key positions held by them in various socio, political and economic fields.

The panel expressed deep pride in all initiatives launched by the SCW to preserve the rights and gains of Bahraini women, as well as to maintain the status of the Bahraini Family.

It praised the plans and strategies devised by the SCW to consolidate the kingdom’s regional and international standing in empowering women and preserving their dignity.
