Royal patronage of Bahraini Women's Day 2021 hailed by lawmakers

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s patronage of the Bahraini Women’s Day 2021 has been praised by the members of the Representatives and Shura councils.

They affirmed that the royal kind gesture confirms the advanced status reached by Bahraini women, who have proved their national role by their outstanding ability to contribute effectively to all aspects of life in the kingdom.

They pointed out that the royal patronage of the occasion embodies HM the King’s unlimited support for the role played by the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), under the leadership of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King, noting that the SCW, as the national official mechanism mandated with advancing Bahraini women, has managed to place Bahrain among the developed countries in women-related issues over the past two decades.

The lawmakers stressed that the theme of this year’s Bahraini Women’s Day, Bahraini Women in National Development… A March of Progress in a Nation of Dedication”, reflects the huge size of Bahraini women’s prominent achievements that covered various development fields, as well as their unwavering readiness to carry on working along with their male compatriots to bring about more progress and prosperity to the nation, on the bases of fairness and equal opportunities.

In this regard, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal, highlighted the importance of HM the King’s patronage of the occasion, coinciding with 20th anniversary of the SCW’s establishment as a national monument concerned with following up on the advancement of Bahraini women, and the kingdom’s celebration of the 20th anniversary of the National Action Charter which paved the way for completing women’s political rights and the resumption of their active participation in public affairs.

She stressed that the royal patronage reflects HM the King’s pride in and appreciation of the Bahraini women’s role in the national development march, as well as ability to achieve the royal aspiration, translate the efforts of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, into the ground and cope with the requirements of the Economic Vision for Bahrain 2030.

She pointed out that HRH Princess Sabeeka’s approval of this year’s theme embodies the valuable contributions of Bahraini women to the kingdom’s development and progress.

Second Deputy Chairperson of the Shura Council, Jameela Ali Salman, affirmed that HM the King’s constant interest in Bahraini women has enabled them to reach the highest levels in supporting the initiatives and programmes of the royal comprehensive development march.

She praised HRH Princess Sabeeka’s tremendous contributions to creating opportunities to empower women and involving them in the national development process.

She affirmed that thanks to the constant support enjoyed by the SCW, the latter has succeeded in making Bahrain a global role model for women’s social, political and civil rights.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee at the Council of Representatives, MP Mohammed Al-Sisi Al-Buainain, hailed the royal patronage of the kingdom’s celebrations of this year’s Bahraini Women’s Day, along with the SCW’s 20th Anniversary, adding that the theme of 2021 edition reflects the deep-rooted presence of Bahraini women in the nation-building process, and its gradual progress hand-in-hand with the development of the modern civil state in Bahrain, based on justice and equality in rights among the citizens, men and women.

He added that Bahraini women have made major strides over the past two decades, under HM the King’s Reform Project which succeeded in placing the kingdom among the developed countries in the fields of constitutional democracy, respect for human rights, high growth rates and activation of the potentials of the citizens from various segments.

He added that the tremendous patriotic efforts of Bahraini women have paid off, as proved by international indicators, and with the success of a Bahraini woman to become the speaker of the directly-elected Council of Representatives, the first-of-its-kind female achievement in region reflecting the openness of the Bahraini society.

MP Ahmed Sabah Al-Salloum pointed out that the royal patronage of the occasion crowns the distinguished status enjoyed by the women in Bahrain thanks to the support accorded to them in various fields.

He asserted that HM the King’s comprehensive reform project has paved the way for women to attain multiple achievements, proving their ability to achieve distinction, practise their full rights and participate in building the nation.

He added that this year’s Bahraini Women’s Day theme reflects the advanced situation of women, given their major contributions to the comprehensive development march, and ability to prove their worth as reflected in their outstanding success in the various posts they have held..

He noted that Bahraini women have also contributed effectively to the national efforts to combat the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), adding that the great number of female frontline personnel affirms that they have made major strides in the medical fields, and gained important field experience.

MP Dr. Sawsan Kamal affirmed that HM the King’s patronage of the Bahraini Women’s Day 2021, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the SCW and the National Action Charter, will further motivate Bahraini women to continue their contributions to the comprehensive development march during the royal prosperous era.

She added that HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s support for women will also motivate them to enhance their successful efforts to achieve the royal aspirations.

She said that the SCW has proved its role as a national monument that continues, under the leadership of HRH Princess Sabeeka, to advance Bahraini women.
