Around 1,000 shrubs and trees were planted on the 16th December Street in the Municipality of Southern Region. They included 843 bushes, 120 cassia and 37 neem trees.
The irrigation network was extended and agricultural sand and fertilisers were also used. Environment-friendly trees were chosen to help fight air pollution and increase the green area in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The project was also aimed at promoting environmental awareness to help fight climate change and develop natural resources in the Kingdom.
It was made possible through coordination between SICO, National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector and Department of Parks and Gardens team in the municipality.
It comes within the framework of activating community partnership with private sector institutions.
The municipality thanked SICO and the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector for their interest in agriculture and continuous support for efforts to increase the green area in the Kingdom.
The municipality has recently beautified a number of streets in southern region such as Al Quds Street, Shaikh Salman Street, Al Zallaq Street, Bahrain Bay, Crown Prince Street, Al Riffa Street, Muscat Street, among others, by planting trees.
