Bahrain Defence Force always on the frontline

Founded in 1968, Bahrain Defence Force is now one of the formidable forces in the region.

Since the graduation of its first batch on 5 February 1969, the BDF has proved its status as the bulwark of the nation, and the home of brave servicemen who are constantly ready to make all sacrifices for the sake of defending the homeland.

The force, which consists of Royal Bahraini Air Force, Royal Bahraini Army, Royal Bahraini Navy and the Royal Guard, is now comparable to the most advanced armies in armament and training.

The achievements are all possible, thanks to the constant follow-up and support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Deputy Supreme Commander and Prime Minister, and Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the BDF Commander-in-Chief.

“Our righteous martyrs have written a glorious history of heroism that immortalized their names and becoming a source of pride for their country and their families,” said a statement by BDF on the occasion.

“We express thanks to all the military and civilian medical and administrative teams for their fruitful humanitarian efforts and bravery in fighting the pandemic,” added the statement.

As it celebrates the anniversary of its development, which falls on 5th February, here is a look at some of the crucial roles the BDF plays in establishing regional stability and peace with a military strength of over 18,000 personnel.

Joint Military Exercises

Based on the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander, the Bahrain Defence Force attaches great importance in conducting joint military exercises, given its critical role in enhancing combat performance, capabilities and efficiency of its affiliates.

BDF said it is keen to hold joint exercises with the brotherly and friendly countries to boost military cooperation.

Fighting COVID-19 Pandemic

Bahrain Defence Force has played a pivotal role in battling the coronavirus pandemic by providing medical facilities, specialized medical staff, advanced treatment technologies and quarantine and isolation services whenever it is necessary.

Bahrain Defence Force Hospital (Military Hospital) and (King Hamad University Hospital) continue to be at the forefront of the coronavirus battle.

Continuous follow-ups

The Bahrain Defence Force’s weaponry and units are being followed up continuously by His Majesty the King, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman to ensure combat and administrative readiness.

Military Science

The Bahrain Defence Force has created many educational facilities, most important of them being the Isa Royal Military College.

The facility contributes to preparing qualified officers with efficiency and competence.

Besides, the Royal Command, Staff and National Defence College are considered a beacon of knowledge for advanced military, and comprehensive strategic defence studies.

Operation Restoring Hope

BDF continues to participate in Operation Restoring Hope with the Saudi-led Arab alliance, as per the joint defence deal signed with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. HM King Hamad directed BDF to take part in the Operation Restoring Hope.

The Bahrain Defence Force received the patrol warship “RBNS Al-Zubara”. The shop possesses special features and capabilities that enhance the skills of the force and reinforcing its readiness.
