Bahraini security forces avert twin ATM-bombings

Timely actions by Bahraini security agencies yesterday averted a major tragedy as they foiled two separate attempts to bomb ATMs in two busy streets.

Security forces spotted the bombs planted in the ATMs of a national bank in the Capital Governorate and quickly defused it.

The bombs were found from the ATMs in Nuaim and Jidhafs.

Interior Ministry said the bombs had been placed at the locations at different times on Wednesday morning.

Explosive disposal teams worked to spot the explosives and diffused it safely without incidents.

Bahraini security authorities, in cooperation with the National Security Agency, are carrying out an investigation.

Police spotted and arrested several suspects, based on crime scene evidence and forensic investigations.

Initial investigation indicates that the two operations were implemented by the distribution of roles among the suspects.

Some of the suspects were involved in the planning part.

“The concerned security authorities in cooperation with the National Security Agency foiled two terrorist plots which aimed to blow up two ATMs belonging to one of the national banks in the al-Naim and Jidhafs areas in the Capital Governorate,” the statement said.

Legal proceedings were taken by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science to refer the case to the Public Prosecution.

Cowardly terrorist acts

In a statement, the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee headed by Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Sisi Al-Buainain, praised the security services and the National Intelligence Service for thwarting the terrorist attacks.

 The committee terming the incidents as “cowardly terrorist acts” said the plots aimed at threatening security and stability and endanger the lives of the innocent people.

Al-Buainain affirmed full support for taking all legal measures to preserve the security, protect the lives of community members, vital facilities, and cultural gains.
