Police book 43,834 for not wearing face masks, 8,002 for breaking social distancing measures

Bahrain’s Interior Ministry registered 43,834 violations against citizens and residents for failing to wear face masks in public settings and shops, amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The ministry also recorded 8,002 cases for not maintain social distancing measures, while carrying out 5,499 awareness campaigns, until February 4.

Brigadier General Dr Sheikh Hamad bin Muhammad Al Khalifa, Assistant Head of Public Security for Operations and Training Affairs, released the figures.

Breaking down further, Dr Sheikh Hamad said that 12,297 of the face mask violations were from the Northern Governorate, as Social distancing violations there amounted to 1,699.

Capital police registered 9,088 cases for not wearing face masks and 547 for not adhering to social distancing measures.

Muharraq police said they booked 9,392 people for not wearing face masks and 1,704 for not committing to social distancing measures.

Violations regarding face masks in Southern governorate reached 5,484, and social distancing touched 3,205.

The Operations department headed by the Public Security said they recorded 7,476 cases for not wearing face masks and 847 for not maintaining social distancing measures.

Police of the General Administration of Ports Security said they took legal actions against 97 people for not wearing face masks.

Civil defence officials said they carried out 169,788 disinfection and sterilisation operations for government buildings and facilities, streets, roads, etc.

Civil Defence officials also carried out 367 training courses on correct methods of disinfection and sterilisation operations, in which 1,163 persons from private institutions and companies and 1051 from various government agencies took part.

Number of volunteers since March 2020 has reached 6,059, with them supervising 1,301 disinfection and sterilisation operations.

Authorities also trained 1,230 volunteers to sterilise mosques and carried out 107 disinfection and sterilisation operations in association with cleaning companies.
