Bahrain has emphasised the importance of restoring diplomatic ties with Qatar to settle disputes and secure lasting peace for the benefit of both countries and the region.
The Foreign Ministry sent correspondence to its Qatari counterpart, reiterating an invitation to send an official delegation to start bilateral talks regarding pending issues between the two countries.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Regional and GCC Affairs, Ambassador Waheed Mubarak Sayyar, paid a visit to Doha yesterday to deliver correspondence from Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani to Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
The move was part of the implementation of the provisions of the Al-Ula statement issued at the 41st session of the GCC Supreme Council, which was held in Al-Ula Governorate, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on January 5, 2021.
Following the Al-Ula meeting, the three-year dispute with Qatar had ended and the diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt with Qatar were returning to normal.
Bahrain had also opened its airspace to Qatar.
The Shura Council’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee commended the step which reflects Bahrain’s stance, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to strengthen the GCC cohesion.
Chaired by Shura Council member Youssef bin Ahmed Al Ghatam, the committee lauded the move to end disputes and revive Bahrain-Qatar diplomatic ties.
