Spit-and-rob suspect given three and half years in jail
The High Criminal Court sentenced an Ethiopian national accused of robbery to three-and-a-half years in jail. The accused allegedly spat on pedestrians to distract them and rob their belongings including wallets, cash and bags.
Police received a tip off about this and undercover agents were deployed in Manama to search for him. He was eventually spotted attempting to rob a wallet from a person’s trouser pocket.
According to court files, officers saw him spitting on the victim’s trouser. He then allegedly went closer to offer apologies, before taking a tissue from his pocket to wipe off the saliva.
