February 2021 was warmer than usual: Bahrain Metrology

February was warmer than normal in temperatures and below-average precipitation, the Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in its monthly weather summary.
The mean temperature of the month was 19.7°C, which is 1.3°C above the long-term normal for February and this goes on record as the fourth-highest mean monthly temperature for February since 1902.
This is the same as February 1960 and exceeded by February 1963 with a record of 21.5°C, February 1999 and 2010 with a record of 20.4°C and February 1979, 2015 and 2018 with a record of 19.8°C.
The mean maximum temperature of the month was 22.9°C, which is 0.9°C above the long-term normal.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 28.2°C on February 18 at Bahrain International Airport, but 29.5°C was recorded on February 15 at Bahrain International Circuit.
The mean minimum temperature of the month was 17.1°C, which is 1.7°C above the long-term normal and this goes on record as the fifth-highest mean minimum temperature for February since 1946.
The highest mean monthly minimum temperatures recorded in Bahrain for February, 18.3°C, occurred in 1963.
The lowest temperature recorded was 15.1°C on February 26 at Bahrain International Airport, but 11.6°C was recorded on February 1 at Durrat Al Bahrain.
The lowest temperature recorded at Bahrain International Airport for February was 7.2°C on February 11, 1949, and February 8, 1950.
The mean relative humidity for February was 69%, the mean maximum relative humidity was 82% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 53%.
The maximum relative humidity was 94% recorded on February 17 and the minimum relative humidity, 29%, was recorded on February 15.
A total of 2.4 mm of precipitation was reported in February 2021 at Bahrain International Airport. Trace amounts were recorded on February 18, 19 and 25.
The long-term mean total precipitation for February is 13.0 mm and the highest monthly rainfall ever recorded during February at Bahrain International Airport was 106.8 mm in 1988.
The total monthly precipitation recorded for February 2021 at Sitra Island was 3.8 mm, 1.8 mm at King Fahad Causeway, 1 mm at Bahrain International Circuit and 0.2 mm at Durrat Al Bahrain.
The mean wind speed for February was 10 knots. The prevailing wind was 51% from the Northwest direction. Gust winds reached 30 knots on February 25 at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 33 knots on February 18 at King Fahad Causeway.
Fog affected the Kingdom on February 17 and visibility dropped to 100 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
