Bahrain’s reform process in place: Ahmed Al Mulla

Parliament Chairman and the head of the parliamentary delegation participating in the International Parliament meetings currently held in Geneva, Ahmed Al Mulla, stressed that the reform process is going at a steady pace and in accordance with a clear vision and determination to secure citizens' interest despite all ongoing acts of terrorism and foreign interventions.

The Speaker added that since 2011, terrorist groups supported by some countries who back them with money and weapons have targeted destabilizing Bahrain's security by killing innocent people and destroying public and private properties.

He underlined Bahrain's rejection of all forms of interference in its internal affairs, pointing out that some human rights organisations have been misled by slogans launched by terrorist groups.

He noted that Bahrain is among the few countries that have achieved most of the Millennium Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in 2000, and will continue to achieve the goals of Sustainable Development plan approved by the UN.

This came in Al Mulla's speech addressing the opening session of the 133rd Inter Parliamentary Union General Assembly themed ‘the moral and economic imperative for fairer, smarter and more humane migration’.

He added that Bahrain and the Gulf countries have received millions of Arab immigrants and displaced people affected by the tragic humanitarian situations witnessed by the region, and have provided them with material and moral support, health care, free education, allowing them to be engaged in the labour market and family reunion.

He pointed out the role of the parliaments of the world to develop legislative and legal frameworks to regulate the crisis of refugees and displaced persons and the application of the 1951 Refugee Convention.
