A Bahraini court handed down hefty fines to a trainer and an owner of a local gym for breaching coronavirus regulations and sparking an outbreak among its members.
The court found them guilty of the offences and slapped both of them with BD3,000 fines each.
The trainer, a foreign national, also received a one-year prison term, after which authorities will deport him.
Incidents leading to the case began with the Ministry of Health receiving a complaint against the gym.
The complaints alleged that many of the people that went to the gym turned COVID-19 positive.
Based on this, the Health workers, upon a visit to the gym, found that the gym seldom followed social distancing measures and all of the people inside, including trainers and members, failed to wear facemasks.
The Ministry of Health told the court that the laxity in following COVID-19 protocols resulted in the outbreak among gym members.
