Three Arabs received jail terms of six months each after being convicted of failing to report 16 kilograms of gold while entering Bahrain.
The defendants reportedly attempted to smuggle the goods into the country while deliberately hiding it in their clothes.
Though they were asked by customs officials if they had any items to declare, they denied carrying anything they were supposed to reveal as per the law.
However, a thorough search later, gold weighing 16 kilograms was seized from them.
They were later tried before the Lower Criminal Court.
The defendants’ jail term may be postponed after the court set a BD100 bail, pending the outcome of their appeals.
The gold, meanwhile, was ordered to be confiscated.
