The Royal Medical Services said its stock reconciliation efforts resulted in recording an almost 100% match between records and on-hand inventory stock.
Warehouse for medicines, surgical and general equipment and pharmacy stocks were in agreement with that entered in the books, said Commander of the Royal Medical Services, Major General Professor Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa.
Inventory stock in external pharmacies showed a 100% match, while warehouses showed a 98.6 % correctness and internal Pharmacies 98% accuracy.
The stock of medicines held in the warehouses recorded a 100% match, while surgical materials showed a 99.4% match. Stock accuracy in the external and internal pharmacies was 100%.
The data is according to the Control and Auditing Department of the Royal Medical Services Department.
Inventory reconciliation is the process of matching inventory records with the physical inventory stock held in a store or warehouse. The process starts by counting stock to match the physical inventory available for sale with recorded stock.
This helps reduce stock discrepancies and understand why there are discrepancies in the first place.
Recently, a Bahraini court had slapped seven Health Ministry employees with fines of BD500 each for the loss of more than 170,00 narcotic tables from the ministry’s drug stores.
“Tablets went missing from the central stores of the Health Ministry, the Salmaniya Medical Complex stores and the outpatient pharmacy of SMC,” the court statement had said.
