Planting date palms and other shrubs have commenced at the Palm Oasis in Zallaq Street, said Works Minister.
Essam Khalaf, the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, said the ministry had also completed the soil treatment works before planting the trees.
Joining hands for the project is the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources and the southern municipality.
During a field trip, the minister said the project aims at enhancing the green cover of the Kingdom by extending it to other areas.
Undersecretary for Agriculture Affairs and Marine Resources, Dr Nabil Abu Al-Fateh, the Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs, Sheikh Muhammad bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, and ministry officials accompanied the minister.
Khalaf said the Oasis project enhances the aesthetic value of Zallaq street.
“Similar projects are on the anvil at various regions of the Kingdom,” the minister added.
Works Ministry, he said, will intensify the cultivation of Bahraini fruit trees, shade trees and other trees suitable for the climate to enhance the green cover of the Kingdom.
