Bahrain dealt with more than 1.8 million online judicial transactions in 2020

Judicial transactions conducted through the national e-government portal ‘bahrain.bh’ in 2020 has crossed 1,800,000 transactions.

The Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, said the total number of transactions amid the pandemic is 1,861,102.

Shaikh Khalid said the ministry is also continuing to implement the electronic transformation of services in cooperation with the Information and e-Government authority.

“Automation of Civil, Commercial and Sharia court procedures are complete, and work is underway to transform court procedures online,” said the minister.

The minister further stressed that the ministry is moving ahead with the launch of a unified payment system, which would produce a fundamental shift in digital services.

“This will provide people with a single electronic platform to pay all their dues and other fees,” the minister added.

Dr Ahmed Sweileh, the Director of the Information Systems Department at the Ministry of Justice, said the transactions conducted during 2020 included services that allow the filing of civil and commercial lawsuits, inquiring about requests, submitting expert opinion to courts, reviewing case file status, etc.

The eServices were active on the national portal bahrain.bh include: Courts and Cases services, Payment of Criminal orders, travel ban services, lease contract service, private notary services, execution services, licenses and attorney services, marriage services, request for release of minor funds, and notification and judicial announcements services.

Travel ban services allow citizens and residents to enquire about any verdicts issued from execution courts preventing t h e m from travelling.

The service allows a person to pay the amounts due to these verdicts online. On the unified payment service project, Dr Sweileh said the project allows the payment of all types of fees, dues, including those related to more than one file. The system also allows the estimation of fees by lawyers, litigants and auditors.

The Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, in cooperation with the Supreme Judicial Council and the Information and eGovernment Authority, began launching electronic implementation services in 2015, leading to the launch of legal case services on a large scale in early April 2020
