French embassy announces the winner of its screenwriting workshop

Six young Bahraini and an Indian filmmakers were received by French Ambassador to Bahrain Jérôme Cauchard, to honor them on the second edition of the screenwriting workshop organized by the embassy.
During the two weeks of the workshop, the young participants, were able to develop their short film project with the support of the French expert and scriptwriter, Marianne Mayer.
At the end of the workshop, the competitors were able to finalize their scripted project and present it to a selection jury made up of stakeholders from the Bahraini film industry, such as Bassam Al Thawadi, a famous Bahraini director, and Mohammed Fakhro, founder of Bahraini based production company Blu Steel Films.
Marianne Mayer said that this edition was, like last year's, of great quality and it was extremely difficult to make a decision on the winner, noting the creativity of the participants.
Deena Al Saweer was named the winner, a young aspiring Bahraini filmmaker who is determined to pursue a career in cinema.
The winner will have their short film fully funded with an opportunity to broadcasting it locally and regionally.
Following the success of the 2020 edition, STC Bahrain sponsored the event which emphasizes on the screenwriting and the production of this year winner’s short film.
“We are extremely excited to support young talented artists within Bahrain, as this comes as part of our long-term mission to support local communities and empower local talents,”Nezar Banabeela, Chief Executive Officer at stc Bahrain said.
Last year, two participants were awarded the prize of best script, their short films, produced and directed, will soon be presented at the Bahraini short film festival organized by the embassy.
