The Ministry of Housing has announced that it is extending the validity of the exceptions given to Bahraini citizens’ who wish to benefit from the Mazaya scheme for another six months.
This came after many Bahrainis expressed their concerns following the Ministry’s decision to set April 16, 2021, as the deadline to receive the applications of those who don’t submit all the programme’s requirements, including the age or monthly salary.
The Ministry attributed its initiative to the calls raised by the parliamentary members, who urged it to prolong the deadline as many Bahrainis have agreed with contractors to build their homes, but they are still under construction.
Mazaya scheme is a housing programme that allows mid-income Bahrainis to get finance up to BD81,000 in collaboration with a local bank to buy a house ready for habitation while paying only a quarter of their monthly salary.
The age ceiling of this programme is 35 years old, while the minimum salary is BD600.
However, the Ministry of Housing had offered exceptions to citizens, whose age above 35 or who earn a monthly salary below BD600.
This benefit no longer exists, and the Ministry of Housing had urged all the Bahrainis who received exceptions to take advantage of the programme by April 16, 2021, before prolonging the deadline for six months to allow all of them to adjust.
“All applicants who were exempted from the conditions of Mazaya will now have extra six months to submit their requests, provided their age is below 45 at the time of the application and the property is complete and ready for occupation,” the Ministry said in its statement.
