The defendant was convicted in two similar cases, receiving a BD1,000 fine in the first case and BD3,000 fine as well as six months’ imprisonment in the second case.
The Public Prosecution described the defendant’s violation as heinous for allowing more than 30 people inside the restaurant in violation of the precautionary measures.
He already stood trial in two similar cases.
According to court files, the defendant reportedly also failed to follow the distance specified between the tables inside the restaurant.
The Public Prosecution’s representative told the Lower Criminal Court that the defendant’s behaviour indicates that he was careless so he deserves exemplary punishment which includes five years in prison and a BD20,000 fine as well as a BD40,000 fine against the restaurant.
He also stated the number of daily coronavirus cases exceeded 1,000 because of the carelessness of people behaving similarly to the defendant.
