Oil Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa opened the Operational Excellence in the Middle East and North Africa (OPEX MENA 2021) conference and the Gulf Safety Forum, both held virtually.

Organised by the Euro Petroleum Consultants and the Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), in cooperation with the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and support of many international and GCC oil companies, the event attracted more than 350 participants, including CEOs of local, regional and international oil companies, experts, engineers and specialists in the oil industries around the world, in addition to leading international experts and suppliers of safety tools and technologies.

Addressing the event, the minister praised the holding of the important conference, which, he said, provides a distinguished platform to exchange successful experiences, expertise, information and ideas on ways to find solutions to improving safety in all sectors, particularly the industrial ones.

He stressed that safety is among the priorities of companies, highlighting the importance of training the workforce in creative and professional ways so that they could contain all accidents, which will reduce losses, save time and increase companies’ ability to adapt to various challenges they are facing as a result of the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The minister indicated that Bahrain is implementing many oil projects in order to improve its economy, stressing the continuous progress of the oil industry in the kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

He added that the NOGA-affiliated oil companies are committed to all safety systems and regulations, commending the tremendous efforts exerted by companies’ workers and contractors to achieve many working hours without the occurrence of time-wasting accidents, which, he said, is a great achievement attained thanks to companies’ commitment to the safety standards.

OPEX MENA was launched in 2013 and is a high-level and interactive annual forum that provides organisations in the MENA region with access to current thought leadership and advanced methodologies for improving performance through strategies related to operational excellence and safety.
