Bahrain’s Everest expedition team made a fourhour acclimatisation trek from Namche Bazaar ahead of their final climb to Mount Everest. One of the popular stops along the Everest route, Namche is often described as the staging point to Everest and other Himalayan peaks in the area.

The place has developed into a colourful market town selling everything from Tibetan artefacts to trekking and climbing equipment, justifying its name.

The bazaar also offers breath-taking views of the giant Himalayan peaks from anywhere in the valley on an archshaped mountain. The place is also the last stop for Everest climbers to do some last-minute shopping for essentials.

Bahrain team said they took the Namche route to conduct a “4 to 5-hour” trek. “The idea is to gain 1,000 meters in altitude during the trek, then drop down 500 metres to reduce the effects of altitude sickness,” wrote the team on their Instagram handle. The team also posted a picture of them reaching Mende, the halfway point for the acclimatisation trek from Namche Bazaar.

Bahrain’s 16 member expedition team comprising 13 Bahraini Defence Force members and three British nationals, is accompanied by 100 people, including Sherpas, mountain guides and high altitude workers. Mingma Sherpa, the chairperson of Seven Summit Treks, the company organising the expedition, had said earlier that the team would attempt to summit Mt Everest this spring.

The team has already scaled Lobuche peak and Mount Manaslu in the October of 2020.
