Stay at home and go out only for extreme necessities, urged the Interior Ministry yesterday to people here. There is a considerable increase in the number of infection during the past days, warned the ministry.

The ministry added: “Adhere strictly to the instruction given by the National Medical Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) to avoid the increase in the spread and existing cases.” The ministry also called on to remain committed to wearing face masks and maintain social distancing while in public places. The Interior Ministry also attributed the current rise in existing cases to social gatherings.

66,714 cases

Police have taken 8,786 measures to maintain social distancing standards, registered 66,714 cases for not wearing a face mask in public places, and implement 7,816 awareness campaigns until April 1. Civil Defence officials carried out 231,012 cleansing and sterilisation operations and continue to hold training courses on the correct methods of disinfection.

About 1,180 people from the private sector and 1,051 from government agencies took part in the Civil Defence courses. The number of volunteers since March of last year reached 6,062.

The Civil Defence officials also supervised 1,597 disinfection and sterilisation jobs with the help of volunteers. They also trained 1,230 people to sterilise mosques.

The officials also carried out 107 disinfection and sterilisation operations in cooperation with cleaning companies. The national ambulance centre responded to 8,158 pandemic related calls through a specialised and qualified team and transported infected cases to the designated places.
