Distribution of Royal grant to Maatams begins

Distribution of the annual Royal Grant to Maatams (community and religious centres) during the Muharram commemorations season has commenced yesterday, it was announced.

Jaffaria Waqf Directorate (JWD) of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry announced yesterday that it provided Maatams with supplies that included tea, sugar, milk and safety equipment (fire extinguishers and first aid kits), in addition to 50, 000 boxes of facial tissues and one million plastic cups.

As announced earlier, the annual Royal Grant comes in compliance with the directive of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to the Royal Court, instructing to distribute the annual Royal Grant for the new year 1437H to charity societies and Maatams, in coordination with the Sunni and Jaffariya endowment directorates.

JWD Chairman Sheikh Abdulmohsen Al Asfoor said that special teams from the directorate have been tasked to deliver the supplies directly to the centres.

He explained in a press statement that the grant distribution destinations includes 850 Maatams and centres, adding that the process includes all governorates this year, though it was mainly dedicated to the centres in the Capital during the previous years.

Sheikh Al Asfoor expressed his gratitude to the generous gestures of HM the King, Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

He also praised the annual contribution of state institutions during the Ashoora commemoration season.
