More libraries needed: Dr Sarhan

Most of the cities in the Kingdom don’t have a public library said by Shura Council member  Dr. Mansoor Sarhan

“Public libraries play an important role in providing knowledge to citizens,” he said.

“Newer cities like Hamad Town don’t have any libraries,” he said, adding Isa Town has a library built in the 1960s.

Dr. Sarhan said public libraries play an important role to provide knowledge to citizens, as they are like open universities.

He said, “It is very important to build a public library in these cities. Many people and scholars in these areas can benefit from this. It will help them to be productive as they are one of the most important cultural and educational providers.”

He added, “A well organized public library is needed in these cities.”

He said, “Reading habits from childhood should be encouraged. It is important in life to learn about other cultures and civilizations as it provides awareness and aid in dealing with other peoples’ customs. The Education Ministry and Housing Ministry can play a big role in fulfilling this provision to people who need it.”

He said Isa Cultural Centre is one of the most appreciated and significant libraries in the country, which has thousands of books by Bahrainis.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sarhan also praised the efforts of the Housing Ministry in providing housing units for citizens.

He said that back then the housing projects were built in a form of villages, but now they are built in the form of large cities and one of the best examples is the Northern city.
