Bahrain’s Everest expedition team members are on yet another quest ahead of their final push to conquer Mt Everest.  The 16-member Bahrain team, this time around, is on an acclimatisation trip to Lobuche, a mountain that lies close to the Khumbu Glacier and the settlement of Lobuche.

There are two peaks, Lobuche East (6,119m), a trekking peak, and Lobuche West (6,145m), an expedition peak. Climbers see Lobuche peak as an excellent introduction to Himalayan altitude, which also offers breathtaking views of the Khumbu valley.

The climb, according to experts, requires some of the best trekking and climbing skills for a safe and trouble-free journey. Before attempting Lobuche, the team also went on an acclimatisation trek to a height of 5100 meters from Dingboche.

“The aim is to keep altitude sickness at bay while we move to Everest base camp,” the team wrote on its Instagram account.

In a late-night post yesterday, they wrote, “The Team said reach Lobuche, we will rest here until tomorrow and head to Everest Base Camp.”

The team had also earlier scaled Mt Manaslu in preparation to summit Mt Everest.

Himalayan Times report said the team was granted the expedition permit on March 26 by The Department of Tourism (DoT).

In a report, Shaikh Mohamed Hamad Mohamed Al Khalifa also expressed his gratitude towards sherpas. “Without the sherpas, I cannot imagine any of our expeditions,” he said, “During both of our earlier expeditions, the sherpas worked hard, which makes me very confident about summiting Mt Everest,” the report quoted Shaikh Mohamed as saying. “They are not only physically strong but also very supportive and helpful, he said, adding, “The sherpa men, as well as women, are equally strong.

After climbing Manaslu and Lobuche, I feel there is no way of climbing a mountain without the sherpas.”

According to the report, each member of the 16 members Bahraini expedition team have two sherpa guides. Shaikh Mohammed expressed hope that the expedition will serve as an inspiration for more people from the region.

“While staying at luxurious hotels and roaming around is less taxing on the body but climbing the mountains, visiting villages and getting close to nature provides a whole new level of satisfaction,” the report quoted him as saying.

Nepal has reopened Mount Everest and its seven other 26,200-foot-plus peaks in the hope of a mountain-climbing rebound.
