Boosting Bahrain’s global status

Highlighting the human rights achievements in Bahrain is a priority in parliamentary diplomacy.
The focus should be on the comprehensive progress and development in human rights within the comprehensive development process of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
This was emphasised by Council of Representatives Speaker Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal during a virtual meeting with the parliament’s delegation to the 142nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and related meetings to be held online in May.
The Speaker praised the qualitative projects, initiatives and programmes in Bahrain to enhance the culture of human rights and to strengthen the efforts made by the government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in support of human rights in various fields.
Strengthening and developing the methodology for parliamentary diplomacy is a common objective for both the Council of Representatives and the Shura Council, the two chambers of the parliament.
There is continuous coordination and integration between the two councils with an overarching goal to boost Bahrain’s status and to show the comprehensive achievements in parliamentary democracy and the human rights field, she said.
Zainal indicated that the Representatives’ Council is keen to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy in cooperation with the Foreign Affairs Ministry and Bahraini embassies abroad, to highlight all civilisational achievements in general, and human rights in particular, to show the development and progress witnessed by the Bahraini human rights record.
Global model
Speaker Zainal affirmed that Bahrain has become a prominent example and global model in the fields of human rights, peace, coexistence and tolerance. She noted that the noble approach of His Majesty King Hamad made the values and principles of cooperation and human solidarity on which the prosperity and progress of nations are built, through multiple royal initiatives, to promote world peace and the advancement of the human conscience.
She praised the government’s efforts in upholding human values, strengthening the role of the state of law and institutions, rights and justice, and ensuring the health and safety of all.
The Speaker recalled the initiative of the late His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, to launch the International Day of Conscience, which was adopted by the United Nations for the first time in 2019, stressing that the initiative confirms the role of the Kingdom and its position in the international community.
She affirmed the continuing parliamentary support for the distinguished efforts of Bahrain in serving humanitarian causes and building a common global understanding dominated by security and tranquility, combating and rejecting all forms of extremism, terrorism and hatred among people.
