Panic over ‘explosion’ at shopping mall

Panic erupted at a leading shopping mall in the Bahrain on Tuesday night, as news of a planned explosion there spread.

The incident took place at around 10 PM in one of the top floors of Bahrain City Centre parking lots.

Interior Ministry said on its official Twitter page that “Civil Defence extinguished a small fire accident that took place at a parking lot of one of the shopping malls in Manama.” However, the ministry didn’t mention the name of the mall.

DT News spoke to one of the officials at the centre. The official didn’t confirm or deny the news about the bomb, stating that “the concerned department in the mall’s management will inform the public later,” yet, the fire was confirmed by the official.

Informed sources told that most shops were closed at the time when the incident took place and “shop managements were not informed about the fire by the mall management.”

Meanwhile, several videos showing the fire and people panicking at the mall were circulated online. They claimed that the fire engulfed a parked car at the mall’s parking lots. No further details were available.
